The British Council

Singapore 1997

Our first step was to look at the way the building worked – redistributing staff from other areas into a more open and welcoming reception and giving the public easier access to its resources. We considered acoustic control carefully to help a busy entrance work comfortably with a quiet library next door. Traditional timber craftsmanship is used, alluding to a supportive relationship between the British Council and the locality.
