Sparking Reaction
Sellafield, Cumbria, May 2002
Our approach was to help visitors engage with written text in an issues based exhibition – something most people often do little of in this situation. The physically and intellectually immersive space at the centre of Sparking Reaction aims to do this with large-scale animated text and images projected onto the floor and walls. The text is revealed and concealed in a series of animations that intrigue and draw in visitors, and updated with visitors’ opinions. Steel polyhedral forms painted in pink UV reactive paint house interactives, and a pink UV lit tunnel leads to the entirely red Immersion Cinema – the first interactive cinema in the UK. Casson Mann designed the exhibition space, admissions area and retail facilities.
